Custom Countertops

What’s the Best Countertop for Your Kitchen?

When you’re planning your kitchen remodel, you don’t just have to think about how you want your kitchen to look — you also have to think about the materials you’re going to use. When you get new custom cabinets in your kitchen, part of the installation process includes a brand-new countertop, but deciding on the best one for your kitchen can be a tough choice.

Your countertop doesn’t just add to your kitchen aesthetic; it’s also a surface that’s going to get a lot of use over the years. So while you want your countertop to look good, you also want to choose something that can stand up to regular wear and tear. At the same time, you’re investing a lot of money, and you’re going to be looking at your new kitchen countertop for a long time, so you might as well pick something you love!

4 Kitchen Countertop Options

At Kustom Kabinetry, we’ve been installing custom cabinets and countertops for more than 25 years. In that time, we’ve found there are several beautiful options that work really well in kitchens. Here are our top countertop suggestions, starting with the most affordable option.

Laminate

Laminate isn’t the most popular countertop these days, but it’s perfect if you’re looking for a good quality countertop at a lower cost. Some laminate options on the market aren’t as strong as they should be, however. So if you do choose laminate, we recommend Wilsonart High Definition (HD) laminate because of its notable durability.

Corian

Corian is a solid surface countertop that looks great, but isn’t often a top contender. Softer and not very heat-resistant, it’s prone to scratches and obvious wear marks that can make your countertop look dull. Luckily, you can get your Corian looking practically new again if you have it buffed by a professional.

Granite

Despite being prone to cracking, scratching, and staining, granite is a beloved countertop choice that can be found in kitchens all over. Not only is it stunning, but it’s also durable and can handle heat pretty well. If you go with granite, you’ll love it, but you should know that it does require occasional maintenance.

Quartz

Made of natural stone and set into man-made resin, quartz is a best-seller that’s frequently chosen for its durability and resistance to heat*, scratching, and staining. Similar to granite, quartz is a stunning, luxurious countertop option, but — unlike granite — it’s also incredibly hard and strong, and never needs to be sealed.

There are many other countertop options you can explore, but these are some of the most popular. If you’re not sure what type of countertop you want in your dream kitchen, ask your custom cabinet maker! They’ll be able to provide an honest recommendation for you to consider as you work through your kitchen remodel.
